12/06/10 – Intriguing blurb

This is what you're told about Phillip Pullman's latest book – The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ. It presents the bible as if there'd been twins born and not just one kid. I'm about a quarter ways through it and can't see myself finishing it. Dad reckons that's because I have very little knowledge of bible stories but it's also because it's repetitive. It's as if Pullman has said "well, you know what'd be an interesting thought? Two sons of Mary" and then proceeds to flesh it out in numerous bible stories, and I'm just beginning to think to myself "yeah; we get the point..." after Story # 4.
